The Wilson Center, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Czech Republic and the Embassy of the Slovak Republic, commemorates the centennial anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia with a special lecture and opening of the exhibit Czechs and Slovaks on Their Difficult Road to Peace and Independence on October 4, 2018, at 4 pm.
The Great War, fought to end all wars, forever changed the map of Europe, creating democratic nation-states in 1918. Delve into period photographs and newspaper clippings, accompanied by historical analysis, to fully understand the enormous scale of the quest for independence, whether in politics or in combat, by the Czechs, Slovaks and their supporters abroad.
The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Military History Institute Prague and the Institute of History of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava.
