The Mutual Inspirations Festival 2018 – Czech Independence launched at the Czech Embassy with the opening of the exhibition, The Good 100, on September 6, 2018. Deputy Chief of Mission Zdeněk Beránek delivered remarks on the importance of the centennial anniversary of Czech independence celebrated by this year’s festival, before giving the floor to professor and acclaimed author Renáta Fučíková, who oversaw the creation of the visual exhibit on display.
The Good 100, designed by students of Media and Didactic Illustration at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art from the University of West Bohemia, reflects on the positive moments and events in each of the last one hundred years. Renáta Fučíková contended that Czechs tend to think of the turbulent and dark times of the last century; hence, she initiated a two-year project with her students to create an exhibition to illustrate the groundbreaking discoveries, artistic creation, incredible achievements, and vibrant life during that time. One of her students, Uyanga Undarmaa, was on hand to also share her thoughts and involvement in the inspirational project.
The guests were able to view the designs adoring the Embassy’s main exhibition hall and speak first hand to the artists. The program was accompanied by pianist Florence Ahn’s special performance of two works, Humoresque no. 7 in G flat by Antonín Dvořák, and Slepička (The Hen) by Bedřich Smetana.
