SVANDA THEATRE: Four Plays from Prague

op Czech theatre company Švandovo divadlo (Svanda Theatre) delivered memorable performances of four plays, "The Good and the True," "Pankrác '45," "Protest" and "The Debt" at Georgetown University, The Davis Performing Arts Center, in Washington, DC, on September 20-23, 2018.

The 4-day theatrical showcase included talkbacks and receptions with the artists. Each of the plays addressed powerful topics and personalities that resonated in the history of the Czech Republic from Holocaust survivors, totalitarian oppression to dissident activists and the ramifications of one’s actions. The plays showed the humanity in decisions to act or not to act. The performances put a lens to our own lives and the inner workings of some of our darkest times. The program was presented by the Georgetown University Theater and Performance Studies Program, The Laboratory of Global Performance and Politics, in association with the Embassy of the Czech Republic and City of Prague, Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, and Arts Institut - Theatre-Institut.
