Exhibition: Lost Europe

The AU Museum at the Katzen Arts Center will reopen the exhibition Lost Europe: On the Edge of Memories on September 9, 2023 at 6 pm. Take an intimate walk across rural Ukraine through the lens of three Czech photographers: Karel Cudlín, Jan Dobrovský, and Martin Wágner. This is the first time these black and white pictures will be exhibited in the United States.
Piano Concert: Matyáš Novák

Film: Zátopek

The Avalon Theatre will screen the moving film Zátopek by director David Ondriček on September 13, at 8 pm. Widely considered one of the greatest runners of all time, ZÁTOPEK stars Václav Neužil as long-distance runner and four-time Olympic gold medalist Emil Zátopek. Winner of Eight Czech Lions in 2022 including Best Picture, the film spans the incredible life of the “Czech Locomotive,” including his amazing hat-trick at the Olympic Games in Helsinki.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic will host an online talk as part of its series, Women in Business, with Monika Vintrlíková, CEO of Albaform, Inc., on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 12 pm. The entrepreneur will elaborate on her business and the discussion will be open to learn about her success and lessons learned from competing on the American market. Monika Vintrlíková currently also serves as the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Atlanta, Georgia.
Ukrainian Play Readings Project

The Alliance for New Music-Theatre joins the Worldwide Ukrainian Play Readings Project featuring music by Ken Burns' collaborator pianist Jacqueline Schwab and directed by Susan Galbraith and Matty Griffiths at the Kay Spiritual Life Center on the campus of American University on September 21, 2023, beginning at 7pm. The evening will include six works woven together in one seamless night of shared storytelling, including monologues and plays commissioned by the Center for International Theatre Development (CITD).

The Czech Embassy will host an evening of scares and thrills for young children, Czech Legends and Mythical Creatures, on October 17, 2023, at 6 pm.
Ever heard of the Bogeyman, the Forest Demon, Water Goblin, Melusine, or the Midday Lady? Join us for a glimpse into Czech fairytales and folklore. An introduction to Czech mythical creatures will be followed by a walk, intended for children’s amusement, through the haunted forest upon the grounds of the Czech Embassy. Pondering Czech legends, adults will enjoy understanding the origins and explanations behind the most notorious, intriguing, and a few lovable, fictitious yet legendary sprites, spirits, and ghosts.
