The Embassy of the Czech Republic hosted a celebration of Czech National Day with Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský as keynote speaker. Minister Lipavský highlighted the strong and resilient Czech-US partnership, grounded in defense and security cooperation, advanced technologies, energy collaboration, and the cherished bonds with the Czech diaspora.
He emphasized the importance of united transatlantic efforts within NATO, including continued support for Ukraine, noting that deterrence against Russia remains a shared priority.
Ambassador Miloslav Stašek opened the evening by honoring the historic bonds between Czechoslovakia and the United States, reflecting on the nation’s founding and the US Army’s liberation of West Bohemia and the City of Pilsen 80 years ago. He also highlighted expanding Czech investment in the United States and strong partnerships with organizations such as the American Friends of the Czech Republic.
Representing Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen, Major General Craig W. Strong spoke of the Czech Republic’s long-standing partnership with the National Guards of Nebraska and Texas since 1993, based on shared heritage, friendship, and trust.
A moving moment of the evening honored First Lieutenant Vladimír Taussig for his extraordinary WWII service. Foreign Minister Lipavský and Brigadier General Martin Sikora presented the State Defense Cross to his daughter, Deborah Boehner, who reflected on her father’s belief that “the good always wins.”
To commemorate the occasion, the Embassy prepared a special gift in collaboration with Prusa Research 3D printers—a company founded by Czech inventor Josef Prusa, manufacturing 3D printers and filaments in Delaware. Guests received a 3D-printed cookie cutter in the shape of the Czech lion.
This year, the Embassy also partnered with the Plzeňský kraj and the Plzen.eu to promote economic ties and tourism. Guests enjoyed Pilsner Urquell beer and traditional domažlické koláče (pastries), as well as the exhibition “Loos and Pilsen”, organized by Česká centra/Czech Centres and Západočeská galerie v Plzni, showcasing the influential modern architectural works of Adolf Loos Plzeň.
Happy Czech National Day!
