Private Preview: Fashion in the Garden – BOLD LOOKS

September 24, 2020, 10:00 AM

The Embassy of the Czech Republic, in collaboration with Diplomacy and Fashion, will hold a private preview of Fashion in the Garden – BOLD LOOKS, a collection of environmentally sustainable, couture clothing by Czech fashion designer Petra Ptáčková, on September 24, 2020. The collection will be open to the public every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am - 4 pm from September 29- October 15, 2020.

In the collection, Petra creates functional clothing with a twist of “magic realism,” defining clothes as a piece of art in accordance with wearability. Most of her clothes are produced ethically through recycled materials. Many of her garments one can adjust, change size, or transform into something else. Through her work, she strives to rediscover forgotten techniques and reinvent them today.

Inspired by the teachings of John Amos Comenius and his philosophy of learning through play, Petra relates through her creativity. Her fashion is the result of a vibrant journey of inspiration. She notes that she playfully begins each work with an illustration, drawings to capture her imagination, which are behind the construction of every collection. She realizes that, “Playfulness keeps our attention to learn and pushes our boundaries.”

During these unusual times, Diplomacy and Fashion Founder /Ambassador's wife Indira Gumarova invites the public to discover "a hidden oasis of couture" spread across the Embassy's meadow. Throughout the lush “secret” fashion garden nestled near Rock Creek Park, Petra’s fashion will co-exist with the natural landscape around. Guests will walk throughout the grounds looking for these BOLD LOOKS that are reinvigorating the world of fashion.

The exhibition coincides with global fashion week and reservations are required for attendance.
