The Embassy of the Czech Republic welcomes award-winning pianist Matyáš Novák who will perform a program of renowned Czech composers, including Dvořák, Smetana, and Suk on September 12, 2023, at 6 pm. Unwind in an evening listening to exceptional pieces by Czech classical composers whose work has transcended time.

Abouit the Artist:
Matyáš Novák began studying piano at the age of five. He graduated from the Imola International Piano Academy in 2022 where he studied with Boris Petrushansky. Currently, Matyáš is attending the class of Ivan Klánský at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Matyáš has performed in the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Poland, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Serbia, Italy, Norway, Holland, France, Thailand, the USA and China. In 2017, he debuted in Carnegie Hall. That same year, he released his first album Franz Liszt: Années de pèlerinage: Suisse. In May 2021, the classical record label Nimbus Alliance released his CD with Mozart´s Piano Concertos K. 413, K. 414, K. 415, which he recorded in cooperation with the world famous Wihan Quartet.  
 
Matyáš is winner of many prestigious international competitions, such as XX Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition, XVI International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition, Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras, including the RTVE Symphony Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, among others, and has performed in venues such as Weill Recital Hall (New York), Rudolfinum Hall (Prague), National Library of China (Beijing), Bohemian National Hall (New York), Tivoli Vredenburg Hall (Utrecht), to name a few.
 
The event is part of the Mutual Inspirations Festival 2023! This program particularly focuses on extraordinary Czech composers.

About the Festival:
The Mutual Inspirations Festival (MIF) is an annual initiative spearheaded by the Embassy of the Czech Republic, focusing on the mutual inspirations between Czech and American cultures and featuring each year an extraordinary Czech personality who has greatly influenced and inspired others through his or her work. Now in its 14th year, the Mutual Inspirations Festival 2023 celebrates the life of female racer and trailblazer Eliška Junková.
 
Running from September – November 2023, the festival brings inspiring events to the Washington, DC community and beyond.
