Mendel Museum

The Mendel Museum of Masaryk University promotes the heritage of Gregor Johann Mendel, directly in the original premises of the Augustinian Abbey in Brno, Czech Republic. For almost 42 years on this property, the posthumously recognized father of genetics, Gregor Mendel lived and conducted his universally renowned scientific experiments, mostly with peas.

The museum's current exhibition, Gregor Johann Mendel - The Story of the Humble Genius, presents him as a brilliant scientist as well as the man he was. The exhibit also explores Mendel's range of knowledge in the fields of meteorology, beekeeping, and plant breeding.

In addition to preserving the memory of Mendel's heritage, the Museum also supports the scientific disciplines related to the interests of Masaryk University students. The Museum offers lectures by Czech and international experts, including Nobel Prize winners, cultural events, and concerts.
